K-Klass Revisit Their Debut Single in Manchester: Unplugged

One of the standout films in the Manchester: Unplugged series features Manchester house pioneers K-Klass, who revisit the story behind their iconic track Rhythm Is a Mystery.

Produced by Laura Graham, the cinematic documentary series explores the stories behind songs born in Manchester, pairing intimate performances with honest conversations about the creative process. In this episode, K-Klass reflect on how the track emerged from the city’s vibrant early-90s club culture and went on to become one of the most recognisable house records of all time.

Filmed in Manchester’ Freemount bar - formally Dry Bar on Oldham Street which was the 90’s Hacienda pre bar haunt, the episode sees Paul Roberts, Bobbi Depasois and Russ Morgan look back on the conception and impact of the song from studio experimentation, release, being played in The Hacienda, to its eventual success on dancefloors across the world.

Since its release, the K-Klass episode has become the most watched film in the Manchester: Unplugged series so far, attracting thousands of viewers on YouTube and reaching many more through clips shared across social media.

The band themselves embraced the film, regularly sharing it with their audience and helping introduce the series to house music fans around the world.
